TIL: friendships, patience & procrastination

I usually share with you business stories.

Despite all my adventures in the world of fashion and social media, some of my biggest wins in life came in a completely different area.

An area that is so often neglected and overshadowed by most of the people I see and follow online.

Sure, becoming known and making a living in the digital world is cool. Still, before all that, before creating an IG account, posting your first story, or ordering your first outfit online, there was an area that offered all of us some of the most valuable experiences & lessons.

This area is our relationships.

And I mean the real-life genuine relationships that we have.

How did I manage to keep the same friends for a decade and a half while building a business, getting a bachelor’s degree, and having a long-term relationship at the same time?

I was lucky.

Yep. Looking back I can honestly say that balancing all three things was mainly luck.

However, there’s a valuable dollar lesson that I want to share with you here.

Before I even knew what I wanted to do in life, life gave me buddies who had seen me starting Elcune, going bankrupt, not giving up, trying again, and after repeating the same 3 last steps a couple of times finally making something worth remembering.

If you zoom out on life and see the big picture, you can quickly find out that all problems can be categorized in Health, Wealth, or Relationships.

And even though relationships are the last one on the list, they still are those that influence to a massive degree the other two.

Sure, your health and the health of the ones you love are the most important things in the world.

But what is the meaning of health if you don’t have someone to love?

Sure, making a fortune so big that you retire yourself is a great story to remember.

But what is the meaning of wealth if you don’t have anyone to share it with?

These thoughts have kept me grateful for the relationships in my life even when things were bad.

If I want to share a thing that I’ve learned after managing not losing my childhood friends as I was building and managing a business is that relationships are hard.

And I mean really hard.

And that’s why approaching them as such makes things easier.

Sometimes they hold you back.

Other times they push you in the wrong direction.

They don’t make financial sense.

They help you to stay single more often than not.

They even let you down sometimes.

And that’s okay.

Staying with the same childhood friends as you grow up can be both a curse and a blessing so at least make sure that you treat the people that you have chosen in your life better than they want to be treated.

If you want to have good friends, be a good friend.

Be honest & make good proposals.

What is Patience?

“Patience is figuring out what to do in the meantime.”

Do you want to be patient?

Good. Here’s a formula.

(1) Find something that you want.

(2) Create a plan on how to achieve this (daily/weekly action plan).

(3) Fail as many times as it takes until you achieve this.

(Pro Tip) Figure out what to do in the meantime to be physically and mentally okay.

People tend to complicate stuff.

This is literally as simple as it gets.

What is Procrastination?

“Procrastination is the assassination of all destinations.”

Simple, yet powerful.

If you said you’d do something, listen to Nike.

Just do it.

GROW YOUR INFLUENCE

People post way more photos, but people are way more interested in consuming videos.

But people get mad, they think it is the algorithm or the big tech companies.

Videos are just more engaging.

Moving and fun and they sound.

There is just more demand for video.
